Admittedly I am not the biggest fan of free methods, trying “appease” Google will make most new Bloggers heads spin. I primarily use paid methods but I do all that I can to also learn and put to use S.E.O. and other low cost methods. Why? Well because I have customers and a growing audience, it pays off in the long term to learn all that you can about your craft. So let’s dive into the Tips!

How do you make your content great? Great content passes the “I’m not bored with this” test. Think about it, does your Headline get attention? Can you grab new readers attention with eye catching visuals, engaging videos and easy flow writing style? Dust off your Crown and utilize some of these ingredients;

  • Headlines To Grab Your Readers Attention! Keep your Headlines short but sweet, related and matching. The best Headlines will grab the readers attention, “okay you got me for a few more seconds”. The best thing to know is that your Headline can grab a readers attention but what follows needs to do the same. Here’s an example, “10 Tips To Make Money From Your Blog!” “How To Write Great Content In 3 Easy Steps!” Readers love lists, numbers & don’t like to be confused by headlines that don’t fit the content that follows it.
  • Meta Descriptions, if you’re using a free platform most often the Meta-Title & Description are derived from your heading. So you want a good and concise description of what the content is right in the heading. This is important not only for S.E.O. but when your Posts or Article show up in other places not have a good Description in the heading will leave your posts way in the back of the line! On Self Hosted sites the Meta-Title & Description areas are usually located directly below the content box when your creating & editing, be sure to fill those in before hitting “publish”.
  • Adding images & video will make your content more appealing! What are great images? Your images should be related to your content but should also evoke a response like, “Eewww”, “Cute”, “Funny”, “Cool”, “Laughter”. Images that create a internal response or a emotional aspect help to make your content a “hit”. You want hits and not duds, let me put it this way….”Who would you rather listen to on any given day..1) A dreary professor or 2) A teacher that makes learning fun?” Give value and keep it interesting. Some of the coolest images you can use are on Flickr. Pick the ones that give you a particular feeling (use creative commons, they’re free). Make a note that you will get the best response from images that convey happiness vs images that convey sadness or anger.

You’re Niche or Market are constantly on the search for value, the stuff they want. How to lose weight quickly, great diet with little exercise, developing the best golf swing, making money online, the best foods to eat, make money blogging, who’s dating the hot people, etc. Where ever you fit into your chosen Niche, you must attack some of the common keywords and keyword phrases. Continue to use these same keywords through out every post, but do this for your audience and not the search engines! Don’t let S.E.O. dictate to you what’s popular, let your audience do that. One of the best examples is Pat Flynn, his primary keyword phrase “Smart Passive Income” didn’t exist until he built the audience for it. Go ahead and Google Search “Smart Passive Income”, Pat Flynn is there multiple times on the first and subsequent pages! His primary keyword wasn’t even a searchable traffic keyword until he built his audience around it! Now you would have to pay and arm or leg to outrank him for it or spit out ba-jillions (hey it’s not a word but you get the point), of content targeting what is basically his keyword phrase!

    Target primary keywords (about 4 that are searched and have traffic that’s 5K to 50K per month as a start) that aren’t the most popular but have decent amount of people searching. I recommend using U.S. search numbers to start with. These are your “Hub” keywords, now also add some related keyword phrases of your primary ones, these are like satellites to your primary keywords. These targeted keywords will help you build up an audience, but always provide great value with your content by helping them solve the biggest problems or pains in your Niche.

  2. Always ask yourself before hitting publish, “did I just provide great value”? What’s the answer, “Yes it’s pretty good!”, “Maybe”, “Meh”, “Blech”? Don’t rewrite the whole thing, read it and then revise! An old writer’s saying  goes something like this, “write like your drunk and edit like your sober”. Think that’s a Hemingway quote. Direct your writing as if you are talking directly to the reader, get them involved by asking questions and providing them with value. Great value beats “fluff” all the time! Read your post out loud just to make sure it makes sense and sounds good, use a friend as a sounding board if it helps.
  3. Use the greatest source EVER to assist you! Whenever you get stuck and need some fresh ideas to write about, this is what I do – First I think about, “what do I know now that I wished I knew before about my Niche?”. Second if I want to know about a new subject or want some good research for an idea I search YouTube for “how to ___ fill in the blank”. Third and last I search other blogs in my own Niche for more ideas! That alone should keep you swimming in great content!

Above all it is the consistency of doing all these things together that will ultimately build your great audience of eager readers. Now just when you thought that was it I’ve got some Secret Sauce to give you! Just by adding these 3 elements, you will start getting somewhere from day one (well almost but this will be one of your most rewarding habits, promise!). For every post, page, article or promotion, all the way to the emails you send out. Include these 3 elements:

  • Reach – Is the content reaching your targeted audience where they are?
  • Engagement – Did you include a great Call To Action? “Click Here”, “Comment Below”, ask your audience to do something. You never get anything if you don’t ask for it.
  • Conversion – Did you include a method to get leads onto a list, buy a product, sign up for your Webinar, etc.?

Overall you want the appearance of great professionalism, only good & positive words. But bad words aren’t the only words you want to avoid in marketing. You want to keep away from the most common keywords in your industry and also avoid having the words used with your keyword and in your advertising:

  • Quick Money
  • Fast Money
  • Push Button
  • Free & Easy

Just about any combination of the above words will generate tons of clicks and responses but the majority of people you attract with these words are not where most of the buyers are. What you will see instead when using these keywords will be “Freepreneurs”. These are people that look for free stuff and want magic buttons to make money. Having one thousand of these clicks never equal the positive response of one targeted lead.

Why Asking Is All Important:

Get into the habit of asking for what you want a lead to do in all of your marketing. In your posts, ads, articles on other media or platforms you must let the lead know what you expect them to do. Click here, leave a comment, take this quick survey, sign-up. This is called having a “call to action”, once you start implementing a “call to action” in your marketing you will see a noticeable increase in response if you don’t use them now. Just imagine reading a great post from someone and not having any means to see what else they have written? That’s a possible lead that writer has just lost simply because they didn’t have a simple “click here” and get more value training just like this.

You always want to double check the path you send your leads on and keep it all congruent. All this means is that you want to make sure that you are providing exactly what you stated in your ad or posts. Think about it like this, if you ask for Opt-Ins for your list you must provide what you promised to deliver. If you offer more Tips or Training for someone to sign up then when the lead signs up they will see “Tips or Training” sent to them from you. All of your marketing should perform like a never ending circle but feel like a straight line to your leads. Not a traffic jam of lost proportions:

  1. Lead finds your Site and Opts In for your list for Tips
  2. List gives more Tips as promised and sends leads back to Site
  3. You give more & more value to the lead on the list & your Site
  4. Your list gives the leads related promotional income generating offers
  5. Emails to your list send those leads back to more value on your site

My Beef With Infographics has more to do with how they appear and not the info they provide. Infographics are everywhere these days but have you considered how they are received by the majority of your audience? My Beef With Infographics is that when shared most of the info is lost on the reader.

They’re actually pretty cool, information delivered with images. Some of them have animation too! The idea was great, images married to text to get a point or process across that is more pleasing to readers than plan old text could ever be. What’s not to like in a Infographic? Well in most cases, Infographics look cool on a blog (most of the time). Getting our message out their and trying to grow an audience requires that you need share on other sites and platforms. This is when I start losing my appreciation for Infographics because when shared they’re often hard to read on those other platforms. Cool if the whole idea is to get people onto your site where they can see it better, but….(saw it coming didn’t you). Too often the great Infographic you created ends up looking like this one here on the right. The images come through in most cases but the text is lost on the other places where it might be shared. Can you imagine trying to look at this on your Cell or other device?

Of course I should offer an better alternative to the Infographic, got beef better have a solution right? My solution is in the latest push that’s actually been going on for the past two years in the Social Communities. You didn’t think that Google buying YouTube didn’t have long term impact did you? So here’s my alternative, video. What’s quicker and easier than video? Not much. The rise of the “Go-Pro” is just another signal that if you’re marketing or building a online presence and not doing video you will get left behind. Who could have thunk (hey it’s a word here), that video would keep getting easier to do? Not me for sure! Now you can shoot, upload and share directly from your phone! In HD no less! I’m not only impressed but curious even more so by the latest moves by some of the Social platforms regarding video on their respective sites.

It’s all a big war of content and the Social sites don’t want to be left out. Recently Facebook has made moves to give better traction to video’s directly loaded to their site over other media. Just take a look at the response of video’s there compared to text and images right in your Newsfeeds. Twitter on the other hand recently announced their own app for uploading your video’s directly to Twitter! If that’s not a signal to start adding more video’s to your marketing I don’t know what is. Recently I’ve experienced an explosion of sorts on my own FB page with video’s. Get in the video game or get left behind, you should see where PPC & video has taken my likes now.

Over all I’m not saying leave the Infographics behind but if they are not a big part of your online efforts then take a look at video. Hey Where Did You Go?

Well it’s good to be missed but I didn’t go anywhere! I’ve been working overtime, my red eyes are now a few shades redder now (sleep is not over-rated! Waaaah!). Been working on the new site, did I mention GTGuilloryonline.com? Usually I really don’t have to put this much effort into a site but I really wanted to do this one right and provide the best example for everyone to see! So let’s go behind the scenes of how this site came together.

How To Get Started:

First I had to purchase my Domain (I actually already owned multiple domain variations of my name, so this step was actually already done). One big difference you may have with this depending on if you want to establish your Brand or Keyword.

  1. Establishing a “Brand” takes much more work and is not necessarily what I recommend for anyone getting started. Think of all the commercials for say….Ford! Magazines, billboards, even ads on the Net are all “Brand” advertisements, meant to keep that name in front of you! The key with Branding is that it really doesn’t “sell”, it’s only useful for establishing a name, item or place.
  2. Establishing a Keyword or phrase is more of what I recommend because it gives you an amount of search traffic already built in that you found during your research of the right keyword phrase for your site or blog, makes sense right? Getting started or getting the first success is critical that you have done the research for your keywords and find the money word! That word is the one you need to use for not just your Domain but also your first 4-12 articles!

So I already had the Domain, needed to contact my Hosting provider to get the Domain registered, WordPress and some choice plug-ins uploaded so that I could get started. You need to know which Hosting service YOU want to use before starting this process, one you know is good but sometimes going with a new one can save you a few headaches! MY Hosting service for the new site is Brainhost, let’s just say their support is not the quickest but I still love the regular services I have. So it took about two (insert bad words here…) weeks for them to get this done! If and when I do another site, I will hire a good free lance person to do it for me. Wouldn’t you think “emergency” is “really fast” or “next day”? Apparently I was mistaken on this, sorry I’m kinda whining. Now if you don’t have your Hosting service install WordPress for you or if you use another platform, make sure that you have someone explain what your steps are after this is done. Some require that you register your site again, fill out and maintain your site maps and other little things we don’t usually have to do. Which ever the case may be, I can almost guarantee you can get some plug-ins to cover all of what you need (ask about site/blog S.E.O. plug-ins too, there’s too many for me to mention).

  1. I picked on of the more responsive Theme designs for my site, this makes it a little easier on you as the admin. Plus it’s better for your S.E.O. and ranking, most all new themes are compatable for mobile so that’s less worry too!
  2. Next you will need to start customizing your site to fit your needs. Do you plan on making some money at some point, or are you going to operate strictly as a biz with products to buy direct from you? I’m going to assume (don’t say it!) that you want a blog or site with similar needs like mine.
  3. You need to have at least 4 articles to get started with, focusing on your Keyword Phrase and linking internally to that first page about your niche keyword! Stay with me here, (wake up and smile)! SECRET SAUCE ALERT!!!

Where The Money Is For Your New Site:

Have you heard yet (at least from me) that monetizing your site is another “most important” steps to accomplish? So how do you get that done?

    What’s your answer? Adsense? Nope! Amazon? Nope!

  • Sure you can add those later but they’re not as important, #1 is getting your sign-up added!
  • Right now, a page or pop-up is the best way to go (converts better than the regular form).
  • Oh yeah, almost forgot the “how”, well I recommend using “Pop-Up Domination” or OptimizePress.
  • You can install both through your site directly or through the FTP (a portal accessed from your cpanel, if the confusion is starting to build right now just ask your Hosting for assistance).
  • You also need to have a new list on your Auto-Responder for this sign-up to complete setting up the plug-in.

Yeah, about that list thing:

Do you know how to build a funnel? I used to sell one of mine, maybe I’ll do that again in the future. Anyway what you need to do is

go into your newly made list and start building a funnel for your new client/subscribers. Dependent upon your niche and type of business you need to have most of the emails already completed (the biggest reason for my lack of sleep, ah ha!). Yes there are additional factors you need to consider for those emails.

  1. Thank you, welcome email should go out immediately to your new subscriber’s. Let your readers know what they can expect from you in your emails. This is your first impression, let people know a little bit of your profile ie. married, kids, passionate about pet birds. This will be the start of your relationship with your readers but don’t make it too long, you will start telling your story in the next 2-3 emails.
  2. “How I got started in this business”, will be in the content of your next few emails. Make it a soap opera if you can, have cliff hangers at the end of the email so your readers want to get your next email. Vary the days on all your emails between 2 or 3 days from the previous sent.
  3. The remaining content can be your offers mixed with offers and useful insights that are “gotta have” information.
  4. Last thing with your list is to constantly cultivate your list relationship with “Broadcasts”. These are the emails you send 2-4 times in addition to the automatic ones. Why? Don’t you know when you get an auto email and a personal one? Believe me your audience knows!

Where does that leave me and you? Out in the cold? With the help of his Social Media people, he has turned his millions of followers into endorsements and conversions! Wish I could afford that Social Media guy, but hey I don’t have the million followers yet!

An alternative to hiring a Social Media or even Traffic Guru is to leverage OUR business with success. Nothing will get you success online bigger and better than having someone who already makes giant profits online helping you. Find a program, contact someone willing to teach you not what to do but “how to do it successfully”. Having a one on one Coach will make your business explode beyond where you are right now!

No it’s not easy at first because it might take you getting on the phone or even do what I’ve done and beg sometimes (hey it worked, stop judging me). You’re going to make mistakes in this Biz, I have and will make more (look away, I’m hideous!) so why not make fewer mistakes with experienced help? Be careful though as most online profiteers charge more than most can afford, some charge $50k for one on one training! Find a peer to help by first building your own network between people in the biz.

  1) Reach out and communicate, you might be surprised to find that even many big time money makers will talk to you! The easier and not as expensive route is to build up your network, that goes hand in hand with building your audience and reaching out to other marketers. Start going to marketing events! Any events happening near your location? Another surprising fact is that there is a higher number of online marketers that go on to success after attending those marketing events and take action! Don’t you want to be the next?

2) You can also send your business into the next gear by getting calls from your prospective clients/customers. This can be extremely difficult at first but for those that want to be on YOUR team or buy something from YOU will be more receptive with someone they can talk to (insert YOUR smiling face here). You might be surprised how many contact requests I get asking if I’m a robot or automated response system. Add your contact information such as phone number (or Skype name), ONLY to potential client/customers from your funnel that are engaged in what you offer. Most important (here comes the hardest part) is you will have to be available for those calls. You can also hire a team once you have built your own experience with calls. Simply start writing scripts on what works and don’t be afraid to ask for the sale of your product, or what ever service you are providing.

The bottom line is all of us that are pursuing success online are on the clock and time is ticking down. Finding success is still a difficult journey even when you are already on the right path. For every successful online biz 98% of them had someone of experience and success that guided them in some way. I have a 6 & 7 figure Coach/Partner helping me with my own business right now.
